even though the thread is old, I wonder how it worked for the person starting this discussion.

champix has worked for me, it made quitting a lot easier, and the mood is quite normal.

the odd day that I feel depressed might be due to other reasons, personal things I went through last year, around the same time. so I don't think it is the champix, but the sad memories of last year that contributed to that.

I do hope it is working for you so please let us know

Yes It worked for me 3 times and it's the only thing that has. This time I've switched to wellbutrin after initial withdrawls . My doc want me to take a chantix a few times a week for a while and see how i do. So far so good.

This was my 3rd time trying to quit with chantix. And this is the longest quit I have ever had. Chantix for me was not a one shot deal. It worked for me the second time too 40 days, only I caved in to the craves and started again.

I think the first time was two weeks. But the chantix worked all 3 times. You just have to have the right mind set to let it work for you. And you have to want to quit too.

Thanks Danielle for clarifying that. The chantix can't cause depression. I have heard over the years that if your reactions to medication is like that, there is probably some other problem needing to be dealt with and you should see your doc.

My experience with the Chantix was simply that it seemed to take the anxiety to a very low level for me so that I could more easily handle the withdrawls.

Chantix and depression? Yes, for me it sure did. Not sure if it was the Chantix or just the fact that I quit smoking that caused it. I felt like I was in a dream world, a bit foggy and beside myself.

Nolzrule - I read somewhere that if you quit with Chantix one puff from a cigarette will bring you immediately back to a full bore smoker. It is imperitive you remember the N.O.P.E = Not One Puff Ever rule. Something about the receptors in your head being wide open after using Chantix.

I also believe that Chantix will not work if trying it on a second time. It is a One time - hit it and quit it chance to quit smoking. So don't take Chantix if you are wishy washy about quitting.

Also although the "Manufactuer" says you can take it for quite sometime and they recommend 12 weeks. I wanted to go off mine after 7 but stayed on it till 10.

I don't think it' a good idea to stay on it too long. At 9-10 weeks I would go to 1/2 pill morning 1/2 pill afternoon.

Then off it completely and only take a 1/2 of one if you have a bad craving and feel you may slip. So keep the leftovers for a while.

I know some people that took Chantix for hell week only and have been smoke free for over a year now. They gave their leftover supply to a friend who only took them for 3 weeks and has been quit as long as I have (a bit over a year).

I also used Chantix. I don't recall any depression. I know that I greived a little early in my quit, but that wasn't related to Chantix... that was just me learning that cigs weren't really a friend.

I used Champix (the name it uses in Canada, I think it is the same drug besides that though). I got a bit depressed but I dont think it was the drug that did it, actually this time I quit was better than any other time.

I was a heavy coffee drinker as well, probably 5 or more cups in the morning alone, of course with my smoke. When I quit I didnt want my coffee anymore either and as usual it hit my sytem really hard. I dont know if it is/was so much of a depression as it is a total lack of energy from coming off 2 powerful drugs.

My pull back to smoking usually came with a cup of coffee in my hand. The other times I tried quitting I could not think, could hardly talk, everything just slowed down. This time was not as bad, I lost most of my energy but could still function.

I stayed on the Champix as long as I needed to but after about 6 weeks took myself down to the one morning dose because I needed to sleep and I got such an upset stomach from it. Up until then I felt i needed the Champix and it was worth the side effects to get rid of the habit.

I have not taken any Champix in 2 weeks now but I know I could not have quit without it and if I ever need it again I would not hesitate to go back on it again. The side effects come no where close to benefits, but thats it just my personal opinion. I know other could not stay on it for various reasons. Everyone is different, good luck.

I used Chantix, I am on Cmbalta.. I am a 5 yr stroke survivor, I have been on the Cymbalta over a yr.. for some neuropathy as well as stroke deficits /depression from chemical imbalance. I had some GI issues.. taking the med with food, and a full glass of water helped. I also increased my fiber and used acidophollus/lactobacillus capsules and papaya enzymes.

I was kind of spacey... I can be that way some days ....stroke related especially if i don;t sleep well or get overwhelmed, also you can get kind of spacey from quitting.

I had tried to quit several times before.. The Chantix helped me immensely with cravings, etc. I know with the Chantix and this site I would Never be this close to 100 days.

The doses need to be 6 hours apart so the earlier you can take it in the evening is helpful with sleeping issues.

Hello again Paula!!!

I quit using Chantix and it REALLY helped to minimize the physical cravings I experienced on previous quits!!! Previously, I tried the gum and going cold turkey and hypnosis and cold turkey again, etc. My main obstacle every time was the physical cravings!!! Although there are no "miracle" quit smoking drugs out there, for me, Chantix did the trick!!!

Yes, it does have some side effects... for me the most adverse side effect was the heartburn, but a couple of Pepcids and/or Rolaids a day took care of that problem!!! And there were the dreams and sleep disturbances... the dreams were pretty cool and would sometimes wake me up!! So what, I went back to sleep!!! Depression??? Other than missing what I thought was one of my best friends since I was about 14, no, I didn't experience any depression!!! If anything, my mind became stronger because I was really mad at what the cigarettes were doing to me and what they had done to my family!!!

THE BOTTOM LINE: I went into my quit determined to QUIT!!! The Chantix was pretty much my last resort as far as an NRT for me!!! I found this site and read and learned and made a COMMITTMENT to make this my FINAL QUIT!!! As far as the side effects... didn't matter!!! If it would have made my hair fall out or my nose grow to a gargantuan size, it wouldn't have mattered to me!! I wanted to quit and the Chantix was there to minimize the craves and it worked for me!!! When I was comfortable enough with my quit, I quit the Chantix!!!

If you are really committed to quit the nasty habit and end your addiction, you will do whatever it takes to get the job done!!! Just as I have and our other quit buddies here have!!! Commit and quit!!
