do any meds NOT cause weight gain?

Hi members, Please be sure to consult with your doctor about any concerns regarding side effects of medications. Your local pharmacist is also a great resource. Casey ___________________________________ The Depression Center Support Team

Effexor has THE worst side effects when it comes to stopping the meds of any anti-depressant. ANY med can make you either gain or lose weight. 12 years ago, when I was on Zoloft, I dropped 30 lbs. b/c I was manic on the med. Now, I'm on Paxil, and I puke EVERY SINGLE DAY and will most certainly loose weight on a med most attribute to weight gain. I can't keep anything down - sometimes including my meds. The truth is, no-one really knws before the prescribe it to you, how you may react to a particular med.

What did you decide upon? I have taken Wellbutrin for several years and it was fabulous for me (till recently). I am still on it but my Dr. has added Effexor to the mix. I only had dry mouth and the weight loss with Wellbutrin (aprox 15lbs). But Effexor has run me ragged! Which medication are you on now and how are you finding it?

I spent 4 months on Prozac and it ruined my "intimate" life, and I gained about 15lbs. I went on Wellbutrin after that in hopes my love life would return to normal and not only did it come back full force but I also lost the 15 prozac had put on me plus another 30 in the 7 months I took the Wellbutrin. I didn't see the Wellburtin helping my symptoms though, so I quit taking them. Meds haven't really worked for me.

I've also lost weight with Wellbutrin. In July I saw a pdoc and he increased my dosage of Wellbutrin 50 mg/day. I've lost 10+ lbs but haven't changed diet or started exercising. ~Isil'zha veni~

oddly, I have not lost weight with wellbutrin but I have lost weight when on prozac before. also, the prozac was more effective but it poops out on me after a year or two. now I am on prozac together with wellbutrin xr and buspar and nothings budging with the weight. maybe b/c I stepped down from a high dose of celexa to a lower dose of prozac?

Welbutrin actually helps you lose weight. I was on it and had amazing energy and less craving for carbs. It helped me lose 20 pounds (with exercise and fairly good eating). Unfortunately my specialist took me off of it as I am trying to get pregnant. I am now on 300mg of Effexor. Effexor hasn't caused me weight problems.

Thank you so much for your time! I sincerely appreciate having someone to talk to. I have been on meds for about 4 years now. I have gained weight steadily since! Talk about depressing! I feel like I'm in a catch-22! My doctor: oh, it's not that bad, it's just a few pounds.... blah, blah, blah. I'm a fitness instructor so "just a few pounds" really triggers depression! I took Celexa, the Lexapro (just 10mg) I want to switch so something, ANYTHING!, that won't contribute to weight gain. I tried to wean myself off the meds, because I thought I felt great(like many people have said)! But you really realize how much the meds are working when you try to get off them. I can't believe how volitale I can become. My depression is more in the form of rage and anger. I was actually relieved to read some posts that express this point of the illness. And the withdraw is hell! Anyway, I was looking at Wellbutrin and my doc suggested Effexor. Are they the same? Do they both effect the body the same? Has anyone heard of any meds that don't cause weight gain?
